DesignStone buildings are encapsulated by a protective concrete cladding supported structurally by a continuous independent foundation to roof concrete core-filled steel framework. 

 

DesignStone buildings have been installed and certified in areas up to the most severe cyclonic territories in Australia.

 
A DesignStone wall comprises of multiple precast concrete panels which are smaller in comparison to other precast wall systems. This enables owners or contractors to repair only the damaged sections of a wall should breakage occur as a result of Hurricane driven large air-borne projectiles without compromising the wall in its entirety, structural integrity and/or internal linings. 

 

There is a recorded instance where a light commercial vehice has driven (impacted) into a DesignStone home. Only 5 or so precast panels were damaged externally with no deflection internally to plasterboard linings or structural framing. The panels were replaced in a matter hours and the cost of doing so was minimal.

 

FIRE

The entire wall system is of noncombustible materials. There is a very high resistance to burning, the spread of heat and flames, and resistance to collapse during fires. This means safety for firefighters, and reduction of risk to life and property.


As a total system wall, the thermal rating achieved by the total wall system is a barrier to heat transmission from external fires to interiors. The 50mm (2”) precast cladding together with the concrete core-filled 165mm (6.5”) x 75mm (3”) metal studs provide an average concrete cover of approximately 70mm thickness and insulate the light gauge metal studs against fire at the external wall face.

 

FLOOD

Structural material selection, robust impervious cladding, well-designed foundations, and building elevation (building lift) are mandatory when considering building any type of structure in a flood-prone region.

 

An integrated modular based wall assembly, DesignStone`s steel formwork at lower building levels (prone to flooding) is designed to be removed once the core-filled concrete has cured. Leaving only high-grade concrete building materials in place structurally equipped to support all upper non-flood prone levels where conventional DesignStone metal stay in place formwork is utilised. DesignStone`s precast panels are waterproof in design when installed the rear face of the all-concrete structure is waterproofed further by means of a fluid applied water barrier.

 

Alternatively, DesignStone integrates with elevated structural pole type construction methods. DesignStone was recently utilized to accommodate both building lift methods to achieve success at the 2016 HIA Housing Awards.

CLIMATE

DesignStone’s precast cladding units are typically 50% or less than in comparable masonry systems. DesignStone delivers more internal space with less wall and roof area. The thin (but robust) masonry cladding stores only limited heat that dissipates quickly as the day cools.

An integrated modular wall assembly, DesignStone`s insulation values can be tailored to suit demanding polar, desert, coastal and tropical climates. The system offers thermal wall assembly combinations up to R-Values up R10 (R55 USA).

 
 

LIFE

MAINTENANCE | PEST ATTACK | SALINE | SAFETY

DesignStone`s architectural precast panels including grout/mortar joints are consistently colored throughout, fade resistant and maintenance free.

 

The DesignStone precast panels including grout/mortar joints contain specialised admixtures that retard against coastline & severe corrosive indices.

 

The entire wall system is totally unattractive and resistant to termite & other pest attacks.

 

In life, the DesignStone product protects not only the inside structure but also the occupants. DesignStone has been utilised successfully since the early 1960`s, earlier structures representing this era still in place some of which have been heritage listed in the state of Western Australia recognised as an example of innovation in construction clearly ahead its time.
